Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is a 2016 American superhero film starring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill. It is intended to be the first of a new Justice League series, although a sequel is planned, as well as a stand-alone Batman film. The film is set to be released on March 25, 2016, by Warner Bros. Pictures. It will be directed by Zack Snyder, with a screenplay by Chris Terrio, from a story by Snyder and Terrio. Snyder’s direction will be his first since 2007’s 300. The film is based on DC Comics characters Batman and Superman, and is designed as a direct sequel to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
The film was announced in December 2012, with Snyder attached as the director. Principal photography began in May 2014 and concluded in October 2014. The film was initially planned for a 2015 release, before the release date was pushed back to March 25, 2016. It was screened at the Los Angeles Film Festival on September 25, 2014, and was released in the United States on March 25, 2016, by Warner Bros. Pictures. The title is an allusion to the ideology of the Ancient Greek democracy in which citizens could participate in direct lawmaking through a judicial process they controlled.
